You can’t help but notice the greenery throughout the city! In fact, Sacramento claims to be one of the world’s greatest tree cities!
You know, when I moved back to Sacramento two years ago—after being gone for 10 years—one of the first things I noticed was so many trees had matured! I always remember there being a lot of trees, but it just seemed greener!

There's something to be said for palm tree-lined streets-nice shot!
Favorite kind of tree? Oh, man, that's a hard question. In the world-wide sense, I have to say redwood. But in the downtown Sacramento sense, there are a few specific ones that come to mind. To the left of your shot, up Capitol Mall a block or two, was a great big native-type sycamore, with longer points on the leaves than English Plane trees. And way up in Alkalai Flat, there was a huge old Norway Maple with the deepest darkest shade in the neighborhood, with dark green leaves. And the Hale Mansion, where I rented a studio apartment, was fronted by wonderful old Magnolia trees. That building is now the Stirling Hotel. But those fan palms native to southern desert springs are a cool choice too. Sacramento really is a tree city. Thanks for the memories.
