...the smoke is gone! After nearly a week of soot and smoke, it's nice to finally see the blue sky! As I was driving around downtown, I noticed the clear sky, the big and tall buildings--it just seemed like a 'Kodak' moment. So I thought I'd share.
Downtown Sacramento has really grown over the last few years. There are more restaurants, more shops, more buildings....more variety. Loft living is also a new trend that has encouraged more people to move to the heart of the city.
Growing up in Sacramento, I remember there really wasn't much to do downtown after 5 o'clock...it was lonely and quiet. Now it is bustling! People play, work, and live downtown...creating a fun and exciting new vibe! Check it out!

Sunday on the Sacramento
The Sacramento River is a summer hot spot. Boating down the Sacramento on a Sunday afternoon equals a good time! Even at 6 o'clock in the evening it was quite the scene! As boats passed by I could hear the music pumping!
From breakfast to dinner--you could really spend the whole day on the river! There are some great restaurants all along the way! The river runs west of the city. Trivia tidbit: At 447 miles long, it is the longest river in California. Now, if only I had a boat.

Street Scene
Happy Friday!
I was crossing the street near the Capitol and decided to take advantage of the moment! This is 10th Street…looking toward downtown Sacramento…the Capitol is on your right.
I love the Palm trees!
I love the Palm trees!
You can’t help but notice the greenery throughout the city! In fact, Sacramento claims to be one of the world’s greatest tree cities!
You know, when I moved back to Sacramento two years ago—after being gone for 10 years—one of the first things I noticed was so many trees had matured! I always remember there being a lot of trees, but it just seemed greener!
What’s your favorite kind of tree?

The Rose Garden
The McKinley Park Rose Garden is one of my favorite places in all of Sacramento! It's just down the street from my house...so I drive by it every day. It is a busy park! No matter what time of day it is, I always see people walking or running around the park. Normally, people are also out smelling the roses, but it's been smoky here the last few days--because of all of the wildfires—and that’s keeping most indoors. The garden is also a popular spot for weddings! Do you see that little green house in the background? That is where I went to preschool! (many moons ago!)

Canines at the Capitol
More than just lawmakers were running around the Capitol today! Dog lovers from around the region came for Bark at the Capitol – a celebration of dogs and their best friends!
Justine and her Australian Shepherd, Jag, were showing off their skills…they’re with Haute Dawgs Agility Group. Jag ran the course in 27 seconds... live on Good Day Sacramento! See for yourself!

Here Comes the Sun
We're still dealing with the gray, smoky skies today. On a brighter note, they sure do make for a nice sunrise shot!
Thanks to Tom Zerkel --a loyal Good Day viewer-- for letting me borrow this picture!

Smoky Skyline
Yuck! Wildfires across Northern California are blowing smoke our way ...creating a smoky skyline and dirty air!

Concerts In the Park
What a way to kick start the weekend! Cesar Chavez Park--in the heart of downtown-- is a summer hotspot thanks to the Friday concert series! My friends and I decided to check it out...it was fun, but HOT! We hung out and enjoyed music from local bands... The Helper Monkeys, Hot Pistol, Prieta, and Aroarah.
It is quite the scene...featuring local artists, good food, the famous beer garden... best of all---it's FREE! One piece of advice for you--get there early! It gets pretty crowded!

US Naval Sea Cadets Training
Greetings from Sacramento! Welcome to my blog...and my first post!
If you live in Sacramento, you've probably heard of 'Good Day Sacramento.' It's only the best morning show in town! (OK, so I'm a little bias!) Any who, being a part of the show I get to see and do a bunch a fun stuff-- and get paid for it! I thought I'd share some these fun experiences with you!
This picture is from the US Coast Guard Air Station. I got to tour an aircraft-- the 'C-130 Hercules'-- and hang out with the Naval Sea Cadets.
The young cadets put me through a little training -- nothing compared to the training they do! Fun times!
